Fraxel® 1550 Laser

Non-Invasive Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing in Toronto, ON

Fraxel®, whose name is derived from fractional laser skin resurfacing, is a Health Canada and FDA-cleared non-ablative laser therapy that provides a wide range of treatment options to address aging skin, customized to each patient’s needs and concerns – with many requiring minimal recovery time. The Fraxel® laser at our Toronto area practice is one of the best solutions for people who want their skin to look younger, but don’t want to look plastic or fake and can’t afford to take a lot of time away from work or their social life.

What Does Fraxel® Do?

The Fraxel® laser treats the signs of aging and cumulative sun damage to improve texture and tone and increase radiance of the skin. Fraxel® laser treatment is for patients who would like a non-invasive, non-surgical way to look younger without a dramatic difference in appearance.

The unique benefits of the Fraxel® laser include:

  • Youthful results within a single treatment session (though multiple sessions may yield superior results)
  • Minimal downtime
  • Non-surgical and non-invasive procedure with no incisions or needles

Fraxel®1550 laser treatments are effective for the following concerns:

  • Pigmentation due to aging or sun damage
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Acne-related, surgical, and other types of surface scars

What to Expect from a Fraxel® Laser Treatment Session

The Fraxel® laser emits pulses of light energy that the chromophores (atoms responsible for a compound’s colour) and moisture in the skin absorb. Older forms of laser skin resurfacing did not allow treated skin to heal as well as Fraxel® lasers do.

In this newer, fractionated form, the Fraxel® laser can more precisely target microscopic rows of skin, minimizing damage in the surrounding areas and allowing the skin to heal with far reduced bleeding, scabbing, or other unwanted side effects.

Since the Fraxel® laser is a less aggressive treatment, no prescribed downtime is necessary.

Once absorbed, the light converts into heat energy that systematically vaporizes thin (i.e. fractional) layers of skin at a time, allowing dead surface cells to shed freely and allow fresh skin cells to emerge. Thus, pigmented spots and wrinkles will steadily give way to and even-toned, tightened appearance. Over the following weeks, the neocollagenesis (i.e. the production of new collagen in the skin) triggered by the application of heat will occur, making skin thicker and more pliant.

The number of treatment sessions required will vary from patient to patient, and our doctors can provide more insight on a treatment plan once they visually examine your skin and interview you during a consultation. Many patients achieve their treatment goals in less than five sessions, each spaced out over intervals of two to four weeks.
