Microdermabrasion

Treat Your Skin to SilkPeel® Dermalinfusionin Toronto, ON

While our skin cells are constantly engaged in the process of regeneration – replacing old, dead cells with fresh, young ones throughout a lifelong cycle of cell renewal – the cells that make up the outermost, epidermal layer of the skin are in the final stages of this process, meaning that they are typically on the older side.

With cumulative exposure to UV rays, environmental stressors, and other physical factors, the epidermis can bear telltale signs of aging, photo-related damage, acne, and other lesions. The SilkPeel® microdermabrasion treatments at our Toronto area practice in North York can gently slough off those damaged surface layers, revealing the fresh, clean, beautiful skin that lies beneath.

What is Microdermabrasion?

It is a minimally invasive, non-surgical skin treatment and a gentler version of dermabrasion that involves a far reduced healing time.

It can improve the appearance of several skin lesions, including:

  • Acne
  • Sun/age spots, melasma patches, and other pigmentation issues
  • Stretch marks
  • Certain types of scars, including acne scars
  • Fine lines
  • Textural and tone imperfections

What Does a Microdermabrasion Treatment Entail?

Microdermabrasion makes use of a specially designed applicator with an abrasive surface to gently slough off the thick, epidermal layer of the skin. At our practice, we use a diamond-tip applicator that can gently exfoliate skin while suctioning off dead skin cells. Diamond-tip microdermabrasion is a gentle but effective process that can be used even on sensitive facial areas, such as the lower eyelids.

Our Silkpeel® version of microdermabrasion also involves hydradermabrasion or dermalinfusion, a newer method in which we are able to simultaneously deliver special topical solutions or serums (selected based on your specific skin type and needs) under pneumatic pressure to the young skin cells during the microdermabrasion process. Immediately exposing the freshly exfoliated skin to the serums allows them to penetrate more deeply, and thus, can yield far more noticeable results.

With these multiple steps occurring simultaneously, our specialized process is a time-efficient way to improve skin hydration, dullness, acne, photoaging and pigmentation issues.

The entire treatment session can be performed in under 40 minutes. There is so little discomfort associated with the procedure (besides a little light tingling) that anesthetic substances are not required, and regular activities can be resumed immediately after. Daily sun protection is always key in keeping skin healthy and youthful.

Results & Maintenance

Our microdermabrasion treatments yield both immediate and continual improvements in skin smoothness, fullness, and radiance over the following days. While even a single treatment session can transform the appearance of the skin, repeat treatments every four to six weeks are ideal for continual maintenance to fight clogged pores, black heads, and other skin lesions that can develop over time.

While microdermabrasion and/or chemical peels can be performed as regular standalone treatments, it may also be used to maximize the benefits of laser treatments such as Fraxel® and Clear + Brilliant®.

Facials

Facial treatments are designed to eliminate clogged pores, black heads and comedones. They are recommended once every four to six weeks in order to maintain the health and beauty of the skin.
